The Meaning of Life

When my colleagues ask me what I’m working on, I will joke that I’m thinking about the meaning of life. But when I actually contemplate it – it’s a deep question. A short answer will be: The meaning of life is to live. There are no significant higher goals to attain, no higher purposes except those you give yourself through living. So take it easy. There is not a checkpoint you have to pass to achieve a fulfilling life. It’s just not that serious! Life is to be enjoyed whenever possible. You choose how you want to live, so why not take it easy – despite what people try to tell you.

The reality is: We are all going to die. It isn’t such great news, but it’s true. Use this as a reminder that your time is finite. One day you will be gone. It might be tomorrow; it might be in 80 years. All of your small pettiness, fears and jealousies should pale in comparison to the large unknown nothingness that awaits you. So why not make the most of this wonderful life of yours? Take the time to confront yourself with this impending doom, and rejoice that you are still alive.

Live in the present. Learn to let go of your mind. Stop chasing lost moments and anticipating potential futures. Learn to truly experience what is right in front of you, no denying but embracing the present. Make small steps towards your goals everyday, replace negative thoughts with the positive ones. You are not too old/nerdy/fat/dumb or whatever to improve your life. You are awesome and you can have a thriving life!

I always wonder why birds stay in the same place when they can fly anywhere on the earth. Then I ask myself the same question.
