There once a dog which was carrying a bone. It came to the bridge and happened to look down into the stream. There it saw its own reflection. The dog mistook it for another dog which also had its own bone. Greedy, it thought, “How nice it would be to snatch that piece of bone as well.”
So, the dog looked at its reflection and growled. Its reflection growled back. “Give me that bone!” the dog barked. But as soon as it opened its mouth to bark at the other dog, its own bone fell from his mouth and dropped into the stream. It took some time for the dog to notice that his bone was gone, because he was so busy barking at the other dog.
This is a popular childhood story that teaches us it’s better to be satisfied with what we have, and not to be greedy and chase after shadows. But do you know what happens to the dog next?
Eventually, the dog realized its bone was gone. It looked down at the other dog, the other dog’s bone was gone as well. It saw its bone was washing away in the stream. It was thirsty and hungry. It looked into the stream, the other dog was still there. Finally, despite its fear, it jumped into the stream and its reflection disappeared.
There are plenty of difficult obstacles in your path. Don’t allow yourself to become one of them. Sometimes one has to jump in spite of all fears.
