Happiness is a state of being. Every single day you are faced with a series of ordinary choices. The choices you make can either support your desire for happiness or undermine it. Commit to being happy and keep making the choices each and every day that will support your commitment.
A fulfilling and meaningful life isn’t something that just happens. It’s something you need to create. You have to actively nurture the happiness and fulfillment in your life and continue to encourage yourself to grow and develop within it. Making the decision to be the best you can be can have a profound effect on your life. You become liberated from ideals of perfection and are able to move through life more confidently and with a greater sense of ease. However, most people are fine with “fine” and plenty of people are okay with “okay”. If you want to be the best you can be, make sure you’re not.
When you decide to be the best you can be, don’t be surprised if the circle of people you want to spend your time with becomes smaller. Sometimes any negativity you experience from other people will be subtle and they possibly won’t even realize they are being negative. It’s important to remember, it’s not about you – it’s about them. The only person who can take responsibility for your happiness is you.
If someone tries to undermine your commitment, re-evaluate your commitment to them. Your commitment is your responsibility, nobody can make you change your mind or get you to give up your chosen path. Anyone who doesn’t embrace or at the very least support you doesn’t really belong in your world.
Very few things in life are achieved without effort and a commitment to making that effort. But once you have identified your driving motivation you will have all the encouragement you need. Rather than waiting for things to become easy or forcing yourself into an uphill battle, harness the power of your motivation and rise to the challenge.
The most important commitment you need to make is to becoming the person you want to be. Some of the changes you may need to make will be easier than others, but once you are committed to doing what it takes to have a happy and fulfilling life, becoming that person will be easy.
It’s not how good you are, it’s how good you want to be.
